1. The Romans in Tarragona, history on the Costa Dorada
Tarragona is the capital of the Tarragona province of the same name. This city is a large collection of historical sites in which the Romans play the leading role. In this city you can see several remains from the time when the Romans inhabited this city. The main attraction is the large amphitheater on the water. A special place and definitely a must-see when you go on holiday on the Costa Dorada.
Moreover, Tarragona is also a very nice city, where the old center is very pleasant to walk through and to shop, with many unique tourist shops.
Els Ports Natural Park is located at the very southern tip of the Costa Dorada. Officially we can debate whether it belongs to the Costa Dorado. But who cares 10 kilometers more or less.
Els Ports is a large mountain range with all kinds of things to see and do.
This way you can go to the highest point at 1447 meters, 'Mont Caro.
Or cool off in the waters of Estrets d'Arnes and La Fontcalda, two beautiful rivers in Els Ports Natural Park.
Are you looking for a nice hike? Then ruta del Parrizal is a great walking route, which is also easy to walk with children.

Ametlla de Mar has a rugged coastline with several bays surrounded by red-brown rocks. You can also walk along the coast from bay to bay, even passing a shipwreck.

The rugged coastline of Ametlla de Mar also makes this the best place on the Costa Dorada for snorkelling.
