When you think of a holiday as a family, Salou may not be the first destination that comes to mind.
Salou is somewhat seen as a destination for young people, a destination to party.
But maybe it's worth reconsidering… Because we think Salou is a top destination for a family holiday.
10 reasons why a family vacation to Salou is a good idea
We have put together a list of 10 reasons why you should go to Salou as a family.
The beaches of Salou
Salou has a really beautiful long, sandy beach. The beach also slopes gently, making the water shallow for a long time. This is ideal when you travel with young children. During the high season, the beach at the new center of Salou is quite busy. But if you walk a little more towards the old center or even further, the beach becomes quieter and it is more doable in high season. In the early and late season, the beach is not to busy and accessible everywhere.
The number of playgrounds in Salou
There are playgrounds for children every few meters over kilometers of beach. Ideal right? If the children are bored on the beach, they can enjoy a visit to the playground. These playgrounds are especially nice for families with smaller children.
The long boulevard in Salou
Salou has a very long boulevard, car-free, full of palm trees for that real holiday feeling. Really ideal for strolling here with children. They can just run around or play in the playgrounds on the beach. Great for an evening stroll. Or to discover the centers of Salou. You can relax on the boulevard from the old center of Salou to the new center of Salou.
Riding your bike in Salou
Salou has long cycle path, all along the boulevard. You can also cycle on this cycle path to the next town Cambrils. You can rent a bike at most hotels and campsites, otherwise you can also do that in the center of Salou. Wonderful to discover Salou and Cambrils with the children by bike. Along the way, stop at the beach or at one of the playgrounds. You can make a really nice day trip out of it.
Surroundings of Salou
Salou is located in Tarragona, where there is a lot to discover. Beautiful mountains, bays, rice fields, cities, waterfalls. Tarragona really has something for everyone. Moreover, the distances to the various sights from Salou are also easy to drive, so you can discover a lot of beautiful things. For example, the old town of Tarragona with grand cathedrale is absolutely stunning.
Salou is close to Barcelona
Salou is about an hour's drive from Barcelona. Great for a day trip, because Barcelona is a city that you really should have seen. Barcelona has so much beauty to see, you can't do that in one day. But an absolute highlight is the Sagrada Familia. Book your tickets well in advance, especially in high season. And Salou has a train station. So if you don't want to go to Barcelona by car, just take the train and get off in the center of Barcelona.
Adventure in PortAventura
The PortAventura theme park is located in Salou. Perhaps as beautiful as Disney, with the different themed areas and fun shows. Moreover, they have attractions for all ages, so every family can have fun here. Unfortunately, the entrance is pricey. Children up to four years old are free. So if you go to Salou with young children, I would certainly not skip this park.
Water fun in Salou
There are two water parks close to Salou. PortAventura Caribe Aquatic Park and Aquopolis. Both very nice parks. And slides are always a good idea with kids, right?
Camping Sanguli, Salou
A bit weird to give a campsite as a reason to go to Salou. But Camping & Resort Sanguli is really fantastic. Awarded the best campsite of the year several times and we completely agree. Absolute topper. You will certainly not regret a holiday on Sanguli. If you prefer the smaller campsites, then camping La Siesta in the center of Salou is a good alternative.
Always something happening in Salou
Salou is alive. You can stroll through Salou both during the day and in the evening. Whether that is on the boulevard or in the center. There are always people to be found. Most hotels and campsites are within walking distance of the boulevard and the center, so how nice is it to just walk out of your accommodation in the evening and enjoy people-watching on a terrace. Or enjoy your children playing on the beach for a while.
