Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center, Drakensberg

The Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center is located in the Champagne Valley, close to the entrance of Monks Cowl. It is located very close to the original habitat of the bird species you can find at Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center. With the Drakensberg as a backdrop to the Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center, the views from this bird sanctuary are truly spectacular.

Is the Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center a zoo?

The Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center is not just another zoo where you can see birds. The Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center is actually a sanctuary for birds of prey and other bird species that are injured in the wild. They take care of the birds that are found injured or sick in the vicinity of the Drakensberg. The animals are cared for and rehabilitated and in some cases released back into the wild. Unfortunately this depends on the injuries and unfortunately not all birds can be released back into the wild. So the Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center is certainly not a zoo, but a rescue center for injured birds.

The bird show at the Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center is an informative bird show

The bird show at the Falcon Ridge Bird of Prey Center is mostly informative, but it is told in a fun and interesting way. Although they give you a lot of information about the different birds, it is not boring at all. They don't let the birds do some rehearsed tricks, but rather show how these animals behave in the wild in the Drakensberg.

The birds circle high above the Drakensberg mountains

It is very impressive to see how high these animals fly into the sky until you see only a small speck and then dive down to catch the prey that is tossed up by the employees. Each time they fly away, until sometimes they are even completely out of sight. High above you they circle in search of food. And the moment the employee throws the meat into the air, the birds dive down to greedily eat the prey.
