Madrid, 10x Must-do in the capital of Spain
Madrid is the capital of Spain. A city full of beautiful architecture, stunning parks, palaces, monuments and more than 11,000 restaurants.
There is so much to experience, to do and to see in Madrid.
We have made a list of 10 things that you absolutely must do when you are in Madrid.
Taste Madrid's Churros with chocolate
Madrid has a restaurant on every corner that sells churros with chocolate.
The most famous place to eat these churros with chocolate in Madrid is Chocolateria San Gines. It is said that you can eat the very best Churros with chocolate here, according to both the locals and the tourists.
Visit a Rooftop bar in Madrid
Our favorite is by far the Rooftop Bar of the RIU hotel in Madrid. This Rooftop bar offers a 360 degree view over Madrid. Especially during sunset, the views over Madrid are magical. Moreover, the vibe is great and the food is delicious.
As an extra, the Rooftop Bar of the RIU hotel in Madrid also has a glass bridge. This bridge is a bit for those who dare, because it is quite high when you look down.
El Palacio Real Madrid
The Royal Palace of Madrid is the largest palace in Western Europe. From the outside it is already very impressive, but if you get the chance I would definitely pay a visit and check the inside of El Palacio Real in Madrid. The grandeur of each space is impressive. For example, you can also visit the dining room, which is still used to this day for royal visits and ceremonial occasions. It really is just like in the movies. Also in the evening the palace is beautiful to see with the lights that illuminate the entire palace and give it an enchanting appearance.

Visit the Prado Museum in Madrid
The Prado Museu in Madrid can best be compared with the Louvre in Paris. It really is a huge museum. You will find a wide variety of classic works of art by, for example, Rembrandt and Francisco Goya. In addition to paintings, there are also various sculptures to admire. Just like with the Louvre, you can quickly feel lost in the Prado Museum in Madrid between the wide range that is available. It is best to prepare yourself a bit and think about which works of art you really want to see, otherwise you will quickly wander around aimlessly in the immense Prado Museum.
Adress: C. de Ruiz de Alarcón, 23, 28014 Madrid
Rowing in Madrid's most beautiful park, El Retiro Park
Madrid has several beautiful and large parks, but in our opinion El Retiro park is definitely the most beautiful of all these parks. There are several must-sees in El Retiro Park, including the lake where you can rent a cozy rowing boat and the Glass Palace. But the rose garden and the botanical garden are also gems in El Retiro Park. But in addition to the high lights, it is also just a lovely park to stroll through. There are several street performers and various terraces, but of course you can also just lie on a blanket and enjoy the vibe and the people walking by.
Adress: Plaza de la Independencia, 7, 28001 Madrid
Lunch at Mercado San Miguel, Madrid
Everywhere in Spain you will find the wonderful covered markets, where you can buy fresh products. Often these markets are located in the most beautiful halls. So is Mercado San Miguel. The special thing about Mercado San Miguel is that it is not so much about selling fresh products, but that you can eat very well here. You will find a wide variety of stalls with the most delicious tapas. Find a table in the middle of the hall and taste tapas from the various market stalls. We highly recommend this.
Adress: Pl. de San Miguel, s/n, 28005 Madrid
Visit a Flamenco show in Madrid
Flamenco is the most famous dance in Spain and when you are in Madrid you cannot miss a visit to a Flamenco show. Often these shows are dinner shows and you get dinner with it. It's not cheap, but it's so part of Spanish culture that you really shouldn't miss it.
Stroll El Gran Via in Madrid
When you walk on el Gran Via in Madrid, you really feel like you are in New York.
It feels a bit like Broadway with the different theaters on both sides of the street and the billboards with the different shows and musicals on offer.
From Gran Via you arrive in the pleasant center of Madrid with many shops. So if you like shopping then Madrid is definitely the city for you.
Say Hi to the Bear of Madrid
The coat of arms of Madrid is a bear reaching for a strawberry tree. This makes Madrid perhaps the city with the cutest coat of arms I've ever seen. On Plaza del Sol you will find a statue of this bear. A visit to Madrid is therefore not complete without a photo with this bear.
El Plaza Mayor Madrid
Playa Mayor is the historic center of Madrid and was built in the 15th century.
The gates to this square are extra wide, so that carriages could pass through.
All over the square you will find restaurants and terraces to enjoy the grandeur of this square.
Despite the fact that this square has not always had a positive meaning in history, executions were also carried out and bullfights were held here, the atmosphere is now wonderful.
